30th August 2024 Hiking - Walking: Landguard circuit Wind Direction: E Wind Stength: Surf / Sea State: Air Temperature: Sea Temperature: Weather: sunny periods Max Speed: Distance Covered: Friday 30th August – Windsurf **** The Dip at Felixstowe – sunny periods. Foil – 18.72 knot max, 17.84 knot ave, 13.60 knot hour, 15.87 knot mile, 44.90 km., 14.19 knot alpha. Starboard Freeride 150 and a Evolution Freeride foil with a Tushingham Storm 6.5. Walk **** Landguard circuit with Maeva:) The August wind gods continue to smile with a good breeze from the east supposed to build but with high water in the morning I was in no hurry and being a Friday its our Maeva day which left me several hours to enjoy her company:) I had time to do my exercises in the garden before making a flask and driving over to pick Maeva up around 10.30. We then parked up at The Manor with our aim to introduce Maeva to the lovely Landguard Nature Reserve and set off with her in the buggy and being sheltered from the onshore breeze to start with it was warm. We bumped into our friends of many years out on their bikes picking blackberries and introduced Maeva, she was so pleased to see them that she prompty fell asleep in Mags arms! After a long catch up chat we continued to our spot on the old pier by the River Orwell to have our cuppa with Maeva asllep the whole time! Then as we set off to leave she woke up so took her down to the beach for her biscuit and to play with the stones, she loves the wind in her hair. We had a couple of very friendly gulls which entertained us trying to eat a rich tea whole, they managed it in the end too! After a good spell on the beach we set off back to the van walking all the way on the short grass, Maeva loves the bumps. It is a short drive home, I send some pics to the TV weather while Mag gives Maeva her lunch. Windsurf **** I then hitch up the trailer and head down to The Dip where wingers Ian and Andy are already there setting up 5m wings, winging newcomer David Coles comes down and was going really well, he did go for a swim a few times but then I think we all had a few dunkings! I haven’t sorted out the bolts for my new Starboard foil yet so continued to use the borrowed severne which is quickly set up and my 6.5 rigged which proved perfect to most of the session, only getting a little big right at the end when the wind increased and I was getting tired! Low tide and with the wind in the east make for some nice conditions here at The Dip with some nice smooth water in close with the sea getting bigger further out. I had a top session with some OK gybing especially in the flatter water, I did have a few longer runs out to sea and stayed in front of The Dip for all of the session to make the most of the nice conditions! I got a nice set of mile runs, some OK alphas and an OK top speed so a good session with even more wind tomorrow I might even get out on the fin board? Photo Album here |
